Duskfade Combat Guide: Attacks, Perfect Dodge, and Lock-On

Duskfade combat explained: Minutero combos, special attacks, perfect dodge timing, lock-on, and how to read enemy patterns.

Duskfade Controls

Controller Layout (Xbox and PlayStation)

Light attack and heavy attack are your combo builders. Dodge is B / Circle. The restore input after a perfect dodge is RB / R1. Lock-on is the right stick click or the dedicated lock button, depending on your preset.

Keyboard and Mouse

Map dodge and lock-on to keys you can hit while holding a movement key. Combat is fast enough that a poorly placed dodge key will cost more health than a worse GPU preset.

Minutero: Zirian’s Clock-Hand Weapon

Every swing goes through Minutero. Light attacks are for strings; heavy attacks are for finishers and stagger. Weapon swing timing matters more than raw button mashing — bosses punish panic heavies.

Rainbow Ingots feed the “most beautiful sword” upgrade path. Treat those pickups as combat power, not flavour collectibles.

Light and Heavy Attack Combos

Combo Strings That Actually Work

Start light, stay light until you see an opening, then heavy. Mixing too early leaves you in recovery when the next enemy swing starts. Short strings are safer than a full combo you cannot cancel.

Special Attacks and Swapping Abilities On the Fly

Special attacks are loadouts, not finishing moves. Swap them between encounters: one for groups, one for a single heavy enemy. You can switch on the fly, so there is no excuse to keep a dead ability equipped through a biome.

Perfect Dodge Timing

Watch the enemy, not your own combo. Dodge into the swing, not away from it. If you only dodge on hit-flinch, you are already late.

Using RB to Restore Health After a Perfect Dodge

A successful perfect dodge can open a restore window. Hit RB / R1 immediately. This is how you stay in a boss phase instead of eating a flask-equivalent mid-platforming section.

Lock-On System and Camera Control

Lock-on steadies Tick Town’s neon interiors and most boss arenas. Turn it off for vertical traversal and for the platforming challenge between boss health thresholds.

Reading Enemy Attack Patterns

Most regular enemies have one punish window after a committed swing. Bosses add a second pattern after each 25% threshold. Learn the first phase before you worry about later ones — the tell usually stays, the arena does not.

FAQ

How does perfect dodge work in Duskfade?

Dodge through the attack telegraph (B on Xbox layout). A well-timed dodge avoids the hit, and RB can restore health when the game grants the window.

Should I keep lock-on on during platforming bosses?

Drop lock-on for the traversal phase, then re-apply it when the next combat phase starts. Camera and movement both suffer if you leave it stuck on a distant boss.
